About Us
Katie

From the age of 4 I have been involved in various sports, but have always had a special connection to both swimming and running. As a child being part of a swimming club and competing in galas was a way of life, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

From this I continued training in gym environments and eventually found my love for running at the age of 28, firstly as a way of therapy from the stresses of life and then on to finding THAT 'connection' with running on trails and fells throughout the UK.

My first experience of a race was the Sheffield Half Marathon which was challenging; however, I succeeded and finished the race with very sore legs.  I loved the challenge so much that I then entered a10k trail race in the Lake District. This is was a brilliant race and my first trail race experience,

I have always been an outdoors person being brought up with camping in the Lake District and walking in the Peak District.  In 2015 I took part in the Snowdonia Marathon and completed it in 5hrs 35mins, this was my biggest and proudest achievement. It took a lot of dedication with training but it was such a joyous day and I would recommend anyone to do it.

In additional I have also completed the Keswick 25k trial a twice, the Nottingham Half Marathon, Ironbridge Half Marathon, and Sheffield Half Marathon twice.

As you can see I Iove running and the outdoors and wanted to share this passion with as many like minded people as possible, which is why both me and Paul decided to organise this event. We both look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to a place we love running in and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Happy running,

Hello fellow running enthusiasts.

I was asked (by Katie!) to write a small section about myself and my running back ground, which when I thought about it became easy because my love of running on trails and fells is something I’m very passionate about.

From a very early age I was running and jumping in school sports days, which eventually led me to become a track and field athlete. The training and dedication that this taught me has carried on through all walks of my life and has helped me overcome many obstacles.

When I 'retired' from the track, I needed to fill the void and quickly took up long distance running. Admittedly 1 lap of a running track was long distance to me at the time. However, I persisted and eventually ran my first half marathon (in borrowed shorts and 'fashion' trainers!) 9 months later.

From this less than auspicious start, I have competed in over 40 long distance events, from 5k road races to 120km team duathlons. However, my real passion comes through when in the 'middle of nowhere' by myself, competing against the elements.

When me and Katie first met, we both immediately started talking about running and immediately entered numerous events together. It was whilst doing these races over the following years, that we decided to organise our very own event, and so the Spirit of Ringinglow was born.

Therefore, we hope that you can come along and enjoy our countryside 'playground' with us.

Thanks,

Paul
